About Mix The Grid

Two Formula 1 drivers, drawn at random, put into one mashup and given a score. Every draw gets a permalink you can share, and the daily board ranks the best of them.

The site

The pool is the 616 drivers who have started a Formula 1 world championship race, from 1950 to the most recent result in the archive. A driver's score comes from what they actually did — starts, wins, podiums, poles and points finishes — weighted and shrunk towards the field average so a driver from 1955 and one from 2025 can be compared without pretending the cars were ever the same. A mashup's score is the mean of its two drivers'.

Who runs it

MixTheGrid.com is published and operated by Connect Bench, LLC, a limited liability company in the United States.

It is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Formula 1, the FIA, any team, any driver or any championship.

Where the data comes from

Driver names, nationalities and dates of birth come from the published Formula 1 entry list. Seasons, teams and results come from the Jolpica F1 API, the community successor to Ergast; seasons a driver has died in come from Wikidata. Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under their own licences, and every page that shows one also shows its credit and links to the source.

Accounts and the daily board

There are no passwords on this site. Signing in emails a single-use link that expires in 20 minutes; the browser keeps a signed session for 30 days, and the account page lists every device that is signed in and can end any of them. An account scores five draws a day. Drawing without one still saves and shares the mashup — it simply does not compete.

What the site stores

An account stores an email address, a display name and the draws it makes. Page views are counted without cookies and without third-party scripts, using an identifier that is thrown away when the day ends. The session cookie is the only cookie this site sets, and it exists only for signing in.

Paid features, when they launch, will be billed through Stripe, Inc. Card details go to Stripe and never to this server, which will only ever hold the subscription's state.
