Terms of sale

What you are paying for, and what you are not. The short version: the site is free, drawing mashups is free, and the daily leaderboard is free — a payment never buys an extra scored mashup, a point or a place. The only paid things are a voluntary donation, a one-off founding-supporter payment, and a Pro subscription for tools once it opens.

Who you are dealing with

MixTheGrid.com is published and operated by Connect Bench, LLC, a limited liability company registered in New York, United States. It is the seller for anything bought here, and the other party to these terms. Using the free parts of the site is also covered by these terms, mainly the acceptable-use part below.

It is an independent fan project, not affiliated with Formula 1, the FIA, any team, any driver or any championship.

What is free

The generator, the mashup archive, the driver pages, the Hall of Fame and an account all cost nothing, and there is no advertising. Every account — free or paid — scores five mashups a day. That number is not for sale, because the daily board can carry prizes and a paid entry into it would be a different thing entirely.

No purchase is necessary for anything on the leaderboard. Nothing you can buy changes your odds, your score or your place.

Donations

The support page takes voluntary contributions: $3, $5, $10, or any amount you type. They are one-off.

  • You get no goods or services for a donation, and it unlocks nothing on the site — that is the point, and it is why the board stays the same game for everyone.
  • It is not a charitable gift. Connect Bench, LLC is a company, not a registered charity, so a donation is not tax-deductible as a charitable donation.
  • It does not buy a star, a tier or extra mashups. The founding-supporter payment is the separate, fixed-price thing below.
  • Refunds: if you gave by mistake, say so within 14 days and it is refunded. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

Founding supporter

A single one-off payment of $30, from the support page, with a limited number available. It is not a subscription: it does not renew, there is nothing to cancel, and it is never charged twice.

  • What it is for: the early funding of a site that has no advertising and no paid entry.
  • What you get: a gold star beside your display name on the leaderboard, on your account page and against every title in the Hall of Fame. That is the whole reward — the star is not a tier, and it never affects scoring.
  • If you paid while signed out, the star is attached to the account for the email address Stripe collected for the receipt, and a sign-in link is emailed to it. If that address has no account, one is created; it is inert until the link is used.
  • 14-day right to withdraw. Within 14 days of paying, ask and you get the money back and the star removed, no reason needed. After that the payment stands, because the reward is permanent.

Pro subscription — when it opens

Pro is built and running for founding supporters and for accounts switched on by hand, but there is no subscription to buy yet. When it opens it will be:

  • $5 a month, or $36 a year (two months free on the year), in US dollars.
  • Recurring, and it renews automatically until you cancel. The renewal price and period are shown on the checkout page before you pay, and in the receipt Stripe emails you.
  • Cancel at any time, from the billing link on your account page (Stripe's customer portal). Cancelling stops the next charge and the tools keep working until the end of the period you have paid for. There is no part-period refund.
  • Price changes are announced by email at least 30 days before they apply, and never apply retroactively to a period already paid for.
  • What it buys: tools — compose mode, your draw archive with search and stats, and the breakdown behind any score. Never extra scored mashups, better odds, or anything that moves a driver's score.
  • If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and Pro stays on during the retries; if it stays unpaid the subscription ends and the account goes back to free tools, with the archive and the draws intact.

Paying

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Card details go to Stripe and never to this server, which is why there is no card form here — you are handed to Stripe's own checkout. Prices are in US dollars; sales tax or VAT is added at checkout where the law requires it. Stripe emails the receipt.

Never send card details by email, and be suspicious of any message asking for them: this site will never ask.

Cancelling, refunds and your other rights

Consumers in the UK and the EU have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase made online. The site honours that window for the founding-supporter payment and, once it exists, for a subscription's first payment — even though the tools start the moment you pay. Ask by email and it is refunded; you do not have to give a reason.

After the 14 days, cancel to stop future charges; a period already paid for is not refunded part-way. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law — including your right to a remedy if something is not as described. If a charge looks wrong, write to us before asking your bank for a chargeback: a chargeback reverses a payment we can usually trace and fix in a day.

Prizes, if they are ever offered

Any prize the site ever offers is free to enter: no purchase or payment is necessary or advantageous, entry is the same daily draw every account already gets, and a payment never improves the chance. Prizes would be merchandise rather than cash, drawn at random among free entrants after the period closes, for adults (18+) in the countries named in the published rules. Official rules would be posted before any entry opens. The board is a game of chance with no stake, not a lottery, and it will not be turned into one.

Acceptable use

  • One account per person; pick a display name that is yours to use, and do not take someone else's to impersonate them.
  • Do not automate the generator to flood the board, and do not try to work around the daily quota or make a mashup count when it should not.
  • Do not scrape the archive at a rate that spoils it for everyone else, and do not attempt to break in, probe the admin pages, or send payment webhooks that are not Stripe's.
  • An account that does any of the above can be removed, and a payment made to abuse the site is not refunded.

Content, marks and photographs

The mashup archive is public and meant to be shared: a permalink may be posted anywhere. Driver photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under their own licences — Creative Commons Attribution, Attribution-ShareAlike or public domain — with the author and source credited on every page that shows one, so if you reuse a photograph, that licence and credit travel with it. Formula 1, the FIA, and team and driver names and marks belong to their respective owners; this site's use of them is nominative and unaffiliated.

Availability and liability

The site is provided as it is: it is a small, independent project, so it is best-effort rather than guaranteed, and it may be corrected, changed or briefly unavailable. Connect Bench, LLC is not liable for indirect loss, and nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be excluded — nor any consumer right you have that cannot be waived.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, that does not take away the mandatory protections of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim in your own courts where the law lets you. Talk to us first: most things are a reply and a refund, not a dispute.

Changes to these terms

A change gets a new date on this page. A change that affects a price or a renewal is emailed to subscribers at least 30 days before it applies, and never affects a period already paid for.
